This appears to be a typical software driver bug and is not likely to be caused by a hardware problem. This thread is old, but in case something like this happens to someone else, a resource conflict of this type is caused when two I/O devices are a) using the same I would firstly reboot and if that doesn't clear the error run www.iobit.com asc.setup utility to remove crosslinked files and sort out a crosslinked registry. As a consequence, at bootup, I saw a "1806: PCI/PnP Error!

There is a sequence that generates the problem, and a somewhat reverse sequence that solves it. However, this time the problem is that Window cannot start the device(probably because of the hardware resource conflict). I didn't know a version existed for refurbished PC's. Here are the specs: 500 Mhz, Intel Pntium III Processor 128 MB SDRAM Standard (Sync) 10.2 GB Hard Disk Data/Fax Modem V.90 56.6 kbps Rockwell, with integrated sound card(Internal) OS: Windows

Couldn't have asked for more. I was however able to carry onto the WinXP but once inside the windows, I get a message asking for a driver to install the ethernet controller. This is inserted into the PCI slot. So in short - thanks for your input - enjoy the rest of your time off (if you have any) and I'm not going to touch settings on this thing again!

I tired an older version and i get the message : the instruction at "0x005d9a6e" referenced memory at "0x00000000".
