tags should not be nested, it's in the HTML Firefox was fine, IE was was producing the runtime error.Well I narrowed it down to the form was causing the problem. WOW!!!!!!!!!!!tank you sooooooooooo muuuuuuuuch...i tried to blame microsoft for this kind of error..

nope. I resolved my issue by setting a timer event for 250 milliseconds, such that the function called at the end of the 250 milliseconds replaces the span's innerHTML.
